What is tui na?
Tui na (pronounced “twee nah”) is a form of Chinese massage that has been practiced for more than 2000 years. The word tui means “to push” and na means “to lift and squeeze,” which describes the techniques used in tui na.
Tui na uses Traditional Chinese Medicine techniques to stimulate certain points and areas on your body. This causes muscles to relax and helps blood flow freely throughout your body.
Sometimes, tui na is sometimes called “acupuncture without needles” because it is like acupuncture in the way that it targets specific parts of your body.
What are the benefits of tui na?
Tui na helps promote blood circulation and improve overall body function by stimulating acupoints. It can be used to treat chronic or acute pain caused by joint injuries, arthritis, sprains, muscle strains, and other conditions. In addition to addressing chronic muscle tension or injuries, tui na is also used to treat arthritis, back pain, migraines, menstrual cramps, tendonitis, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), digestive disorders, asthma, and insomnia.
It is a powerful tool for improving physical and mental health and incorporating it into your self-care routine is a great way to ensure that you are treating your body the best way possible!
What can you expect during tui na treatment?
The first step in your tui na session will most likely be an interview with your practitioner. They will ask you about the symptoms you are experiencing and any underlying conditions. This will help them decide which points to focus on during your massage.
As you begin the massage itself, you’ll lie fully clothed on a massage table while the practitioner uses their hands to manipulate your soft tissue and muscles to improve circulation, decrease muscular tension, and promote relaxation. They may also use stretching techniques to align your body and stimulate acupressure points to balance your energy.
The practitioner will use a range of techniques from pressing and kneading to grasping and rolling to manipulate these points or areas of muscle tension until they feel that the energy blocks have been released and the flow of energy has returned to its normal pattern.
